Fashion has always been about pushing boundaries and now, those boundaries are being rewritten entirely. That's why I'm thrilled to introduce Monae, my first 3D-printed handbag created in collaboration with additive manufacturing expert Pablo L. Guerra.
This exclusive piece represents a pivotal moment in my design journey. After years of creating handcrafted crochet handbags, I wanted to explore what becomes possible when traditional design principles meet cutting-edge technology. Pablo's technical mastery allowed me to realize forms and structures that would be impossible through conventional methods.
Monae marks not just a new product but a new chapter in contemporary accessory design. One where creative vision and technological innovation converge to create something entirely unprecedented.
Behind The Design
Translating the Vision into 3D Space
The journey began not on a screen, but with traditional paper and ink. Wanting to explore the possibilities of 3D printing, the first step was drafting detailed, hand-drawn blueprints with precise physical measurements. Because Pablo was outside of Belize at the time, these paper drawings served as the essential bridge between the initial concept and the digital world.
From those exact dimensions, Pablo sculpted the structure from scratch using Autodesk Fusion 360. Because the design required such precise physical parameters, this engineering software allowed for the exact translation of the paper measurements into a digital space. The process required a deep level of patience and collaboration; across countless hours on FaceTime, every curve and negative space was meticulously adjusted. The focus remained entirely on balance, we wanted to refine the geometric lines so that they felt natural and comfortable to hold without compromising the durability of Monae.
Engineering the Print
A digital model is only a blueprint; translating it into a flawless, physical object requires a blend of patience and technical engineering. Finding the exact visual identity was a collaborative process of trial and error. Together we adjusted the scale and colors until we unlocked the final look.
From there, he managed the complex process of slicing the model and optimizing the printing parameters for a multi-material build. The structure relies on a thoughtful pairing of advanced polymers: a flexible TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) body, paired with durable ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) panels. This combination was chosen simply because it was the best, most resilient filament option available that offered exceptional durability, weather resistance, and a refined matte finish.
Layer by Layer
The physical creation is a slow, meditative process. The structure grows layer by microscopic layer on a heated printer bed over many hours. There is a beautiful precision to the machine's work, but the process doesn't end when the printer stops.
True innovation isn't about replacing traditional craftsmanship; it is about expanding it. While the entirely 3D-printed structure of Monae relies on modern technology, the journey always returns to the studio for hand-assembly.
By taking the time to fit and assemble each 3D-printed component by hand, the design retains a deeply personal touch. It creates a thoughtful balance where high-tech engineering and human craftsmanship coexist, resulting in a piece that is engineered for strength but put together with care.

A New Chapter
Monae marks a fresh milestone, not just as a new design, but as a deliberate step into what is possible when creative vision and technological tools come together. It represents a space of open exploration, proving that modern methods can work hand-in-hand with an intentional process.
This piece is the beginning of a new direction, showing that pushing boundaries doesn't mean losing touch with a hands-on foundation.
Monae was created as a limited edition run of only 20 pieces, and the collection is now completely sold out. I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and to everyone who welcomed this new chapter into their collection.
